Oxford Circle is a neighborhood in in the lower Northeast section of Philadelphia, PA. Its namesake is the much used traffic circle made up of the intersection of Oxford Avenue, Cheltenham Avenue, Castor Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard. [1] Oxford Circle borders are ill-defined, like many neighborhoods. However, Oxford Circle is also the name of the surrounding area made up of Summerdale, Tarken, a portion of Frankford and Castor Gardens. Physical boundaries are: Roosevelt Blvd (South & East), Langdon St (W) & Devereaux St (N). Oxford Circle was originally Oxford Township, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. It was an early suburb of the town of Philadelphia. Historically, Oxford Circle was a primarily white, middle class neighborhood, primarily of Irish-American, or Jewish-American descent.
